In general, this glassware is suitable for beers with characteristics similar to champagne or sparkling wines – that is, highly carbonated beers (often beers that have undergone bottle aging or wild fermentation). When pouring into the glass, we experience similar effects as with champagne. This glass type is optimal for sour Belgian beers, wild/sour Ales from America, also due to its volume, because these beers tend to be distinctly sour and not everyone is able or willing to consume them in larger quantities. The flute is ideal glassware for the modern trends Bière de Champagne and Bière Brut as well. To enhance color clarity and effervescence, it is also sometimes used for (bottom-fermented) lagers.
